Home Made Mayonnaise

Have you ever thought about making your own home made mayonnaise? Well today is your lucky day. It is incredibly easy to make, all you need is a whisk, a bowl and some basic ingredients. An electric whisk will make this an easier job but its not too bad doing it with a hand whisk either, I have arthritis and I managed!


1 Egg Yolk (separated from the white)

Half a teaspoon of english mustard

1/2 Teaspoon of vinegar

pinch of salt and pepper

150ml rapeseed oil

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: n/a

Serves: Makes enough for 3 or 4 sandwiches, scale up to make more


  1. Combine the egg yolk, vinegar, mustard salt and pepper in a bowl

  2. Whisk for a couple of minutes and make sure it is mixed well

  3. Add the oil a little bit at a time, making sure it is fully absorbed before adding more

  4. Keep whisking and adding oil bit by bit until all of it has been absorbed

  5. Spread on your favourite sandwich and never buy store bought mayonnaise again!
