Van Dough is a South East London based mobile pizza truck run by husband and wife Steph and James. They make authentic Italian wood fired sour dough pizza in their old 1970's Citroen van. We had heard of them from a friend ages ago, when they were in residence outside the Blythe Hill Tavern every week, but we never got round to going for one of their pizzas. Lockdown came and we thought we had missed the opportunity for the foreseeable future. Fortunately they are out and about again, peddling their delicious pizza all over South East London.
We are massive pizza fans, and I'm not talking Dominos, we are massive fans of authentic Italian sourdough pizza, and that is exactly what they excel at making. It is clear from tasting their pizza that they only use the finest ingredients. From the fluffy sour dough bread to the quality tomatoes used to make the sauce, they get everything right. The Pepperoni pizza didn't just have any old Pepperoni thrown on, it had artisan pepperoni from award winning charcuterie Moons Green, it was absolutely divine. We also tried one of the veggie options, the mushroom and parmesan and it was just oozing flavour. The pizzas are so good in fact, I'm willing to forgive them the fact that you need to mispronounce Van Goughs name for the pun in their name to work. 10/10, we will be buying pizza from them again soon.
These guys really know their stuff, and at £6 - £8 for a pizza you just can't argue the fact that the pizzas are excellent value for money. Check out their website or social media pages to see when they are going to be in your area.
